STEM Racing™ — formerly F1 in Schools — is the world's largest school-based STEM competition, backed by Formula 1. Student teams design, build, market and manage a miniature CO² powered racing car and the business enterprise around it. Teams are assessed across four distinct categories, demanding expertise across the full breadth of STEM disciplines and beyond.
Assessed OnDesign & Engineering
Teams design and simulate their vehicle's aerodynamics, efficiency, and many more aspects. Every aspect of the car is meticulously tested and refined.
Manufacturing
CNC machining, gluing, sanding, painting, applying decals. Manufacturing our cars to perfection one step at a time.
Project Management
Timelines, risk registers and budgets are evaluated against recognised project-management methodologies and documented industry practice.
Marketing & Enterprise
Market analysis, financial projections and sponsorship strategy must draw on credible business reports, official data and clearly cited research.
20 metres.
Roughly one second.
Each car is propelled down a 20-metre track by a single CO₂ cartridge, reaching speeds approaching 80 km/h in a fraction of a second. There is no margin: every gram of mass, every degree of body angle and every micron of surface finish changes the result.
Cars are modelled in CAD, simulated in CFD, then machined from a model block on a CNC router — the same design-validate-build loop used in professional motorsport.
